The future of UV Disinfection!
A world-first for treating Low clarity Liquids and Wastewater

Ultraviolet disinfection is well-established as an effective treatment for water, process liquids and wastewater. The mechanics of the treatment are simple — specialised lamps emitting a specific range of ultraviolet light (termed UV-C or “germicidal range ultraviolet”) are highly effective in disrupting the RNA and DNA structures of bacteria, viruses and protozoa causing rapid deactivation and disinfection.
The Challenge for ultraviolet Treatment
Unfortunately, ultraviolet light intensity and its ability to disinfect drops off at a rapid, exponential rate as water clarity decreases. Whilst ultraviolet treatments have been excellent for drinking water and high-clarity wastewater, conventional ultraviolet treatment products are much less effective in treating process and waste waters that have low Ultraviolet Transmittance (“UVT”).

The Supercritical UV™ disinfection system
Introducing the NovoLabs™ Supercritical UV™ disinfection system
Proven with low clarity liquids to <1% UVT!
Until now, conventional ultraviolet disinfection systems have not been regarded as viable for liquids with UVT below~40% for the simple reason that UV-C light struggles to transmit adequately through such liquids.
Because of its patented UV-C delivery system capable of ensuring high UV-C light intensities are maintained throughout the liquid being treated, NovoLabs™ Supercritical UV™ disinfection system is a world-first solution for treating liquids with UVT as low as <1% in a single pass!
Developed at Massey University in New Zealand, the NovoLabs™ Supercritical UV™ disinfection system provides a breakthrough in ultraviolet disinfection technology for the effective treatment of process liquids and wastewater.

A world-first for treating Low clarity Liquids and Wastewater
NovoLabs™ patented Supercritical UV™ disinfection system provides unparalleled efficacy with low and ultra-low clarity liquids & wastewaters. The disinfection system utilises a unique “top-down” UV-C delivery system and patented supercritical flow hydraulics to effectively treat turbid liquids that have very low ultraviolet transmissibility (UVT). The Supercritical UV™ disinfection system has repeatedly demonstrated pathogen reductions of up to 5 log in liquids of <1% UVT – with a single pass!

The difference is in the ultraviolet delivery system
Conventional ‘channel’ or ‘pipe’ ultraviolet reactors submerge ultraviolet lamps into the turbid liquids where the germicidal light drops off at an exponential rate. The NovoLabs™ Supercritical UV™ disinfection system radically increases ultraviolet dose exposure by irradiating a thin, fast-moving sheet of liquid from above in a highly reflective treatment channel.

Supercritical flow in action
NovoLabs™ patented Supercritical UV™ disinfection system can address treatment challenges and significantly reduce treatment costs for low clarity/low UVT process liquids and wastewaters.

Peace of Mind with Parallel Processing
Because NovoLabs™ modules operate in parallel, any individual module can be safely deactivated and accessed for inspection or service while maintaining full flow throughout the rest of the system.
NovoLabs™ smart system continually monitors flow rates and system status and will auto-divert flow to another module in the event of a lamp outage — ensuring performance protection day and night.

Modular Design for Easy Scalability
- The NovoLabs™ Supercritical UV™ disinfection system utilises a series of treatment modules that run in parallel. Each module has its own control unit to monitor and manage flow and optimise lamp temperature.
- The modular design allows for the easy addition of extra modules to increase capacity as circumstances require.
- Standard configurations are 1 to 10 modules in a rack, and these can be configured to best suit your facility’s layout.
- Containerisation: Whilst NovoLabs™ can install the Supercritical UV™ disinfection systems into existing spaces within your facility, NovoLabs™ also offers “Plug and Play” containerised solutions with quality lighting, additional power points and aluminium treadplate flooring that allow for quick installation and easy relocation if required.

Operator Safety & Ease of Maintenance
- No drip, no mess: NovoLabs™ modules are mounted on a pull-out slider system with a flip-up lid that makes access for inspection and lamp-change quick, clean, easy and safe.
- Zero contact with liquids when extracting ultraviolet lamps.
- Suspended lamps means no build-up of film or fouling of lamp sleeves that deteriorate the quality of ultraviolet light output.
- No complicated wiper systems to be maintained.
- Multiple safeguards allow operator access to the lamps and liquid flow channels without exposure to ultraviolet radiation.
Powered to your requirements
The NovoLabs™ Supercritical UV™ disinfection system employs the highest quality, long-life, low pressure Amalgam ultraviolet lamps that output an optimal spectrum of germicidal UV-C light. Each module is fitted with the number of ultraviolet lamps needed to provide the required output for your application.
