Thousands of drinking water sites globally use Berson UV. Berson UV systems for drinking water treatment meet all the major standards such as DVGW, Ö-norm and USEPA. Berson can supply suitable UV systems for both underground and surface waters.
Berson UV is ideal for treating drinking water as it does not produce unwanted disinfection by-products which can affect the taste, odour or colour of the water. Berson UV is widely accepted as a viable, environmentally friendly alternative to chlorination, as microorganisms resistant to chlorine have no defense against UV. The use of Berson UV disinfection in drinking water plants is now regarded as an important step in the removal of potentially pathogenic micro-organisms. In some cases, such as when treating pure spring water, a simple filter followed by Berson UV disinfection is all that is needed. In other cases, when complex carbon filtration is used, Berson UV acts as an additional defense. It is known that some micro-organisms flourish on active carbon filters, which themselves become a source of contamination. Berson UV kills these unwanted intruders, stopping contamination at the source.
Berson UV-techniek UV systems for drinking water treatment are environmentally friendly with:
- Lower operational costs
- CFD designed
- Bioassay validation (DVGW)
- Lowest number of components
- Smallest footprint
- Lowest headloss
- Highest medium pressure UV Lamp life
- Automatic lamp wiping

Drinking Water UV Disinfection with Berson- Bergen
In the Fall of 2004, a serious waterborne outbreak of giardiasis1 occurred in the Norwegian city of Bergen resulting in over 1,000 people becoming ill. The outbreak began in August with case numbers gradually increasing over several weeks; however, public health investigators did not identify the water supply as the probable source until early November. Water sampling, which was carried out after the outbreak was detected, revealed Giardia lamblia cysts in treated water at concentrations of up to 5 cysts per 10 liters, however their viability was unknown.
