The Latest Water Treatment UV Technology for Aquaculture Applications
Hanovia water treatment UV is well known throughout the European aquaculture industry as a leading supplier of water treatment UV systems for applications such as fish hatcheries, fry rearing, shellfish purging and mussel depuration tanks. Other proven uses for water treatment UV disinfection include the control of algal and fungal blooms, TDS (total dissolved solids) and BOD (biological oxygen demand) problem reduction and even the removal of chlorine and chlorine by products in commercial aquaria using mains water supplies.
New products specifically developed for the fishery and hatchery sectors include Hanovia’s AF3 water treatment UV system, which handles flows between 1.5 m3/hr to 51.0 m3/hr and has lamp outputs ranging from 51 to 270 watts. The ultraviolet output bandwidth of AF3 water treatment UV systems is very narrow, making them ideal for use in hatcheries, where efficient disinfection of viruses and bacteria is required, but where collateral damage to other, beneficial, organisms must be kept to a minimum.
Hatchery and other fish stock is highly susceptible to infection from natural fish populations in the water feeding the farm. Increased water extraction and lowered water quality can also result in increased outbreaks of viral and bacterial fish diseases. An effective water treatment UV disinfection system is therefore essential to treat water entering and circulating within fish farms. Water treatment UV is ideally suited for this application as it does not alter the pH of the water, uses no chemicals and does not create by-products which could harm the stock or damage the environment on discharge. Indeed, water treatment UV disinfection is the most economical disinfection technique available.
