The Role of Water UV treatment

  • Outbreaks of water-borne pathogens place producers at high risk of costly and damaging recalls and product liability. In addition, disinfection of product and package surfaces effectively extends shelf life, providing huge cost savings for our customers. Hanovia has led the way in pre-treatment disinfection and treating direct contact fluids and ingredients, CIP and bottle rinse, liquid sweeteners,  tank headspace etc. Hanovia water UV treatment can destroy chlorine in water without the use of any chemicals or filters, and can effectively replace carbon beds as the primary chlorine barrier for your incoming water. They are easy to install, have a very small footprint compared to the large amounts of space required for carbon bed filters, and also have a germicidal effect. All of this means greater security and greater efficiency for your water treatment plant.

Pre-treatment Disinfection

  • Placement of the water UV treatment system ahead of the carbon filters for dechloramination provides higher carbon filter efficiency resulting in longer carbon runs,  decreasing your operating costs. In addition to extending the life of carbon beds, dechlorinating process water will remove the off flavours associated with chlorine disinfection. Carbon beds also need maintenance such as back washing, cleaning, and replacement at regular intervals. Carbon can also form an attractive environment for bacteria to breed.  Using the Hanovia water UV treatment the flavour of your final product remains unadulterated and free from undesirable flavours and odours. 

Post Carbon

  • The carbon filter forms an ideal environment for micro organisms to grow rapidly, thus producing biological contamination. The water UV treatment of carbon filtered water has been an accepted application for many years. Ozone has the same detrimental effects on beverage flavours as chlorine compounds, thus ozone must be removed from product waters. Water UV treatment systems also provide a safe, simple means of deozonation.

Tank Headspace and Venting

  • Material storage tanks require direct headspace protection as well as eliminating intrusion during drain and fill operations.

CIP, Bottle Rinse or Wash Water

  • Even water used to clean surfaces or used in CIP operations can be a source of contamination. Water UV treatment is an approved method of reducing bacteria without the use of chemicals.

Liquid Sweeteners

  • Sucrose based sweeteners can be a prime breeding ground for micro organisms.Hanovia water UV treatment can effectively destroy bacteria, moulds and spores in sugar syrup up to 67 BRIX at a single pass without the addition of chemicals or the use of heat, and form an efficient barrier to microorganisms in your syrup line.
