Partech TurbiTech Makes Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids Control a Breeze for TRILITY & SA Water

The Victor Harbor Wastewater Treatment Plant uses the Partech designed and manufactured TurbiTech to easily control Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids (MLSS) concentrations.

The Victor Harbor Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is located in Victor Harbor; a popular and picturesque town in South Australia, located on the Fleurieu Peninsula, about 80 km south of Adelaide. Victor Harbor’s population of approximately 15,000 grows to more than 30,000 during the holiday season, which in turn increases the plant inflow.

Victor Harbor WWTP is owned and operated by TRILITY under contract with SA Water. The plant utilises a Submerged Membrane Bioreactor (SMBR) process fitted with Kubota flat sheet membranes. The SMBR process is reliant on keeping the Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids (MLSS) concentration within a prescribed operational level in order to maintain the biomass. The instrumentation used to monitor the MLSS is the TurbiTech HR in situ MLSS monitor manufactured by UK-based Partech Instruments.

The TurbiTech HR offers a unique self-cleaning design, which allows it to monitor the MLSS while remaining constantly immersed in the mixed liquor. TRILITY has found the instrument to be fairly low maintenance; it has required no calibration to date, there’s been no observed instrumental drift and it requires cleaning once per month. The MLSS concentration is routinely sampled and analysed by a NATA accredited laboratory, no large disparities have been observed in comparison to the meter. This has allowed TRILITY to actively control the MLSS concentration and sludge wasting within the plant.

Partech Instruments is represented in Australia by Fluidquip Australia. The TurbiTech HR at Victor Harbor WWTP was supplied and is serviced by Fluidquip Australia's South Australian partner Active Instruments and Controls.
